Police have arrested Sub-inspector (SI) Chanchal Chandra Sarcar for his alleged involvement in shooting a youth inside a building at Rampura in the capital during the July students-mass uprising last year against the fascist regime of Sheikh Hasina.
A special police team arrested him from Dighinala upazila of Khagrachhari district on Sunday (January 26) night.
The victim, Amir Hossain, got frightened seeing the police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel deployed on both sides of the road while returning home after his duty at a hotel on July 19 (during the uprising).
As he started running, police personnel chased him and he took shelter on the third floor of a nearby four-storey under-construction building where after finding him they started opening fire.
He received severe injuries to his both legs and fell down there. Later, the police personnel left the scene assuming him to be dead.
Hearing his scream, local people rushed to the spot and rescued him and sent him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
