The Sundarbans has been inundated by Cyclone Remal-induced tide with the Met office asking the Mongla and Payra seaports to hoist great danger signal number 10.

Azad Kabir of Sundarbans’ Karamjal Wildlife Breeding Centre said the cyclone caused a four-foot rise in water level above the normal level, flooding the Sundarbans.

Azad said the leaves of officials and forest guards of Sundarbans division have been cancelled to avert any Remal-caused damage. The forest guards assigned in vulnerable camps have been evacuated, he added.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, Cyclone Remal, which formed in the Bay of Bengal, might hit the Bangladesh coast by 10pm on Sunday.
