The Dhaka-Chattogram Highway is seeing a surge in protests as more students join the Anti-discrimination Student Movement to demand justice for recent killings and mass arrests.
In response to the movement's calls, students began gathering on the streets, with the crowd swelling as the day progressed, UNB reports.
The UNB correspondent observed people blocking the Jatrabari-Signboard area on the highway on Saturday afternoon.
Thousands of people from various walks of life, including students, their guardians, and workers, joined the protest march. Protesters were seen chanting slogans demanding the resignation of the government.
The scene also included school children in their uniforms joining the protests, accompanied by some of their guardians.
Protesters stated they were only allowing ambulances, outbound passengers, and emergency service vehicles to pass. They were also seen checking proper papers to control vehicle movement on the street.
While no law enforcement agency members were present, army personnel were observed on the road.
