Three decades elapse since April 29 cyclone

The country commemorates the most tragic cyclone on Saturday.

The devastating storm on April 29 in 1991 left several thousand people killed and assets worth several hundred crores of taka destroyed.

Three decades have already elapsed since the deadly cyclone hit the coastal belt and left a trail of destructions.

Local people still bear the fearful memories including those of the faces of the victims of the storm.

They arrange prayer sessions and rallies in observance of the day every year at the coastal belt in Chattogram and Cox's Bazar.

Security of the people of coastal belt in Chattogram is yet to be ensured fully. They are passing their days amid high risk of natural disaster like the cyclone on April 29 as the required dam is yet to be fully constructed.

There have not been constructed required number of cyclone centers for the coastal people.

In this situation, the people of Chattogram particularly people of the coastal belt will observe the day today.
