Train service has returned to normal at the Dhaka-Tongi junction after six hours as a derailed freight train was recovered at Uttara's Azampur.
The derailed train compartment was recovered around 11:20am on Monday, Kamalapur Railway Station Master Md Anowar Hossain said.
"Train operations are now ongoing on both two rail lines."
A compartment of a freight train headed to Chattogram derailed around 5:30am on Monday.
The derailment led to a halt on operations on one of the two rail lines at the Dhaka-Tongi junction. This caused delays as trains were running in both directions on a single track.
Kamalapur Railway Station Master Md Anowar Hossain told bdnews24.com in the morning: “The incident took place around 5:30am in Uttara’s Azampur. The container train was on its way from Dhaka to Chattogram.”
The route from Dhaka was closed that time. However, trains were coming and going on the Dhaka-bound line. This did not pause operations, but some trains were delayed by half an hour, 40 minutes, or an hour, he said.
