Police arrested two prime accused in connection with the murder of a man who was hacked to death in Kamrangirchar area of the capital over previous enmity.
The arrestees are Md Abu Taleb Member, 37, and Md Polash Khan, 33, as pera a UNB report.
They were arrested from Kalkini upazila in Madaripur district around 5:30 pm on Monday, said Md Jashim Uddin, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Lalbagh Division, at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Tuesday.
According to police, Rocky was attacked and hacked with sharp weapons by a group of assailants around 12:15 am on June 23 in front of a rickshaw garage in Beribadh area under Ward-57 of Kamrangirchar.
The attackers—Taleb, Polash, absconding accused Abu Bakkar, Dulal Mia, and two to three unidentified individuals—carried out the assault following a dispute over previous enmity, said the DC.
Locals rescued Rocky after hearing his screams and tried to take him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital but he died on the way, Jashim Uddin added.
Later, Rocky's mother Razia Begum filed a case with Kamrangirchar Police Station.
Police said the arrestees were traced using technology and intelligence efforts.
During primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed that an altercation broke out on June 22 around 3:30 pm when Taleb and another person, Shaon, extorted money from a rickshaw puller, said police.
When the rickshaw puller informed Rocky, he confronted Taleb, which led to an altercation and heated exchange of words.
The killing was a consequence of that dispute, they said.
