A Dhaka court has granted a two-day remand to interrogate two suspects in a case filed over allegedly raping a Dhaka University student.

The suspects are: Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad’s Joint Convener Saiful Islam and Vice-President Nazmul Huda.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Morshed Al Mamun Bhuiyan granted the remand on Monday after DB Inspector Wahiduzzaman produced them before the court seeking seven days remand in a case filed on September 20, reports UNB.

They were arrested on Sunday night, said Rajib Al Masud, the deputy commissioner of Detective Branch of Police (Lalbagh Division).

Former Ducsu vice-president Nurul Haque Nur, Hasan, Nazmul Hasan Sohag and Saiful – joint conveners of the Parishad, its Vice-President Nazmul and DU student Abdullah Hil Baki were accused in the rape case filed at Lalbagh Police Station.

Another case was filed with Kotwali police against the six on September 21 under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act by the same student.

On October 8, the DU student started a fast-unto-death demanding arrest of Nur and five others in the rape case.

She vowed to continue the strike until Nur and Hasan Al Mamun, suspended convener of the Parishad, are arrested.

“I’ll continue my strike until all of the accused are arrested,” she said.
