Washington, DC declares March 26 ‘Bangladesh Day’

Washington, DC, the US capital, has declared March 26, 2019, as ‘Bangladesh Day’ to commemorate the 49th anniversary of the nation’s independence.

Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser made the declaration on Tuesday.

“On this day, people of Bangladesh remember the leadership of the father of their nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the valor of the freedom fighters that led to the independence of their country,” the mayor wrote.

She also thanked the embassy of Bangladesh for its contributions to the cultural diversity of the city and its participation in various local events, bdnews24.com reports.

Mayor Bowser had also declared March 26, 2018, as ‘Bangladesh Day’.
