An unidentified woman died on a footpath in Shahbagh area of the capital on Wednesday morning.
According to Shahbagh police, the woman, believed to be around 42 years old, was found lying unconscious beside a metro rail pillar in front of "Shikkha Bhaban' around 10 am.
She was immediately taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared her dead at 10:30 am.
The body was kept at hospital morgue for autopsy, said Sub-Inspector Lablu Ahmed of Shahbagh Police Station who brought the woman to the hospital.
Police are working to ascertain the identity of the deceased, he said.
