A woman has allegedly been gang-raped while visiting Khilkhet area in the capital with her husband, according to police.
Khilkhet police station has arrested seven people in connection with the incident that took place on Friday evening.
Sheikh Muttajul Islam, Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police for Cantonment Zone, told the media that the victim had been admitted to the one-stop crisis centre (OCC) at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
He said the victim filed a case on Saturday with Khilkhet police station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
According to the police officer, a gang of seven miscreants led by Abul Kashem aka Sumon kidnapped the woman and her husband when they were visiting the Banarupa area under the Khilhet police station.
The miscreants rapped the woman in a bush after her husband was freed for bringing ransom they demanded for her release, he said.
According to the officer, the man called emergency service number 999 after getting released, prompting policemen to launch a drive to rescue the victim and arrest the criminals.
The policemen rescued her around 4 am on Saturday and caught the seven people later from different areas of the city.
