Visiting Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives of Nepal Indira Rana Magar called upon female journalists of Bangladesh and Nepal to work together and learn from each other for establishing just societies in their own countries.
"You are the truth-seekers, storytellers and change-makers," she said at an interactive programme between females in the media sector of Bangladesh and Nepal at the Nepali Embassy in Dhaka on Sunday.
Initiative of Media Women (IMW) of Nepal organised the event with the support of the Nepali Embassy in Dhaka. Nepalese Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari spoke on the occasion.
IMW President and Assistant Senior Sub-Editor Laxmi Bhandari moderated the event, while Chief Editor of Suchana Press Kabita Kumari Adhikari and Senior News Editor/News Reader of Nepal Television Sikshhya Battarai also spoke. Around 20 female journalists from different print, electronic and online media from Bangladesh joined the session.
Journalist-turned-political leader Indira Rana also highlighted the common challenges facing the female journalists in the two countries. Describing female journalists as second parliament, the deputy speaker said they can speak for people's rights and bring out the real picture of vulnerability and harassment which women are subjected to for establishing women-friendly media and society.
