Police have arrested three suspects for beating a man to death while on a deserted road in Chattogram.

They were arrested on Tuesday after raids in different parts of the city.

The arrestees were identified as Farhad Ahmed Chowdhury Jewel, 42, Anisur Rahman Ifat, 19 and a 16-year-old teenager, reports bdnews24.com.

A WhatsApp group titled 'Chattogram Chhatra Janata Traffic Group' helped to identify the perpetrators and they were caught, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Public Relations) Kazi Md Tarek Aziz said at a press briefing on Wednesday.

On Aug 14, the body of a man was found near the Badna Shah shrine. The body had serious injuries on the head, throat and other parts.

Later, family members went to Chattogram Medical College Hospital and identified the victim as Shahadat.

After a month and six days to the incident, a 20-second video clip of the victim being tied up and beaten while the assailants sang songs went viral on social media.

A number of police stations in Chattogram were attacked following the fall of the Awami League government on Aug 5. When Shahadat was beaten on Aug 13, police were at the police station, but were not active.

There were no traffic police on the road and students were controlling the traffic.

Some Red Crescent members found Shahadat's body on the road near the Badna Shah shrine opposite the CSCR Hospital on Aug 14.

They took the body to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Later, police went to the hospital and took the necessary legal action.
