Women journalists trained on journalism, digital security & AI ethics

A three-day training programme on ‘Technical Knowledge Development for Women’ concluded on Tuesday in Dhaka. Fourteen women journalists from various print and electronic media took part in the training.

The training, held at NGO Forum for Public Health Office at Lalmatia, was organised by News Network in cooperation with The Asia Foundation and the UK’s Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), according to a press release.

The concluding session was attended by Sara Taylor, Visiting Mongolia Country Representative of The Asia Foundation; Mir Junayed Jamal, Team Lead of the PERI Programme; Iqbal Mahmood, Deputy Team Lead; Marium Mahzabin, Reform Coordinator; and Fardeen Rahman , Communications Coordinator.

In her closing speech, Sara Taylor said, “We recognise that the media cannot be truly inclusive if women, who make up half our society, are not equally represented, heard or empowered in newsrooms and in frontline of reporting.”

News Network Editor Shahiduzzaman moderated the programme, while media expert Ziaur Rahman and digital expert Raihan Masud conducted sessions.

During the programme, participants learned about the basics of journalism, ethical practices of journalism, social media and the nitty-gritty of digital safety and security as well as the ethical use of AI.
