Today (April 24) is the 3rd anniversary of Rana Plaza tragedy. On this day in 2013 an eight-story commercial building named Rana Plaza collapsed at Savar Upazila of Dhaka.

The search for the dead ended on May 13, 2013 with a death toll of 1,130. Approximately 2,500 injured people were rescued from the building alive. It is considered to be the deadliest garment-factory accident in history, as well as the deadliest accidental structural failure in modern human history.

Those who were rescued from the debris are living a miserable life and are still in a state of trauma with the memory still fresh in their mind. It is a black day in our history. Many workers are still out of job.

The victims are yet to receive their full compensation although three years have passed. We should learn from the Rana Plaza incident that industrial safety is an essential precondition of industrial development.

On this day, we hope that all the victims will get their full compensation without any further delay and people responsible for the collapse will be awarded due punishment.
