THE ROHINGYA people of Myanmar are being subjected to inhuman torture and persecution. As a result they are compelled to leave their homeland and seek refuge in Bangladesh. They are the latest example of mass exodus of a community of people from their own country. We read in newspapers and watch on television that they are being tortured regardless of their age, their houses are being burnt and property being looted. By now the entire world knows who are behind this massacre which has been termed genocide by world's eminent personalities and the media.

Bangladesh is helping them with food and shelter and mobilising world opinion in their favour through intensive diplomatic efforts. In a situation like this the Rohingya also need medical help. Some suffer from diarrhoea and other ailments. Pregnant women are in need of medical attention and care to give birth to their children. Under the circumstances, NGOs, and other humanitarian organisations should stand by the ill-fated Rohingya to help them come out of their endless sufferings.
