In a significant move towards enhancing health monitoring capabilities, Samsung has recently unveiled blood pressure and electrocardiogram (ECG) tracking features for the Galaxy Watch6 series. Integrating these vital health monitoring tools represents a commendable step towards providing users with a comprehensive health tracking experience directly from their wrist.

This addition is currently available in India and will spread out to other countries soon.

Cutting-edge monitoring features

The blood pressure (BP) and ECG tracking features embedded in the Galaxy Watch6 series are valuable complements to regular medical checkups. Accessible through the Samsung Health Monitor app, these features utilize advanced technology, primarily the photoplethysmograph (PPG) sensor housed within the watch.

The PPG sensor enables the Galaxy Watch6 to record both systolic and diastolic pressure and pulse rate readings. Users can seamlessly access and review this recorded data through the Samsung Health Monitor app, providing a detailed overview of their cardiovascular health.

Steps for monitoring

Samsung has simplified the process for users to leverage the BP and ECG tracking features. To measure blood pressure, users need to follow these steps:

  1. Download the Samsung Health Monitor app: Install the app on both your Galaxy Watch and Galaxy smartphone.
  2. Calibrate your Galaxy watch: Follow the calibration instructions provided by the Samsung Health Monitor app. Strap the watch onto the same wrist used during calibration and ensure a snug fit.
  3. Measure your blood pressure: Initiate the measurement process through the app and receive accurate readings.

For ECG readings, the process is equally straightforward:

  1. Pair your Galaxy watch: Connect your watch with the Galaxy smartphone.
  2. Wear the watch snugly: Ensure a secure fit on your wrist.
  3. Open the Samsung Health Monitor app: Access the app on your Galaxy Watch.
  4. Take an ECG reading: Lightly rest your fingertip on the top button of the Galaxy Watch for 30 seconds.

The ECG data collected during this process is then seamlessly synced to the paired Galaxy smartphone. Users can access a detailed PDF report, providing a comprehensive analysis of their electrocardiogram.

Regulatory approvals and future availability

It's worth noting that the BP and ECG tracking features on the Galaxy Watch6 series have received regulatory clearances and certifications from India's Central Drugs Standard Control Organization. This ensures that the monitoring capabilities adhere to the necessary standards, offering users reliable and accurate health data.

Excitingly, Samsung has also announced that these features will be extended to the Galaxy Watch4 and Watch5 series, showcasing the company's commitment to providing cutting-edge health monitoring across its range of smartwatches.
