Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan as the one-day international (ODI) captain for the upcoming Asia Cup and World Cup tournaments.
BCB President Nazmul Hassan confirmed the appointment on Friday, according to local news portals.
He said the BCB appointed Shakib as the captain for Asia Cup and World Cup. The squad for the two tournaments will be announced on Saturday.
With the ODI captaincy, Shakib now holds the Tigers’ leadership position in all formats of international cricket.
The Tigers will begin their Asia Cup campaign on August 31 against Sri Lanka. Bangladesh will face Afghanistan in their first match of the 2023 ODI World Cup on October 7 in India.
Tamim Iqbal was the ODI captain of Bangladesh. He stepped down from his role due to injury concerns earlier this month. The BCB was considering Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz as to name ODI captain.
