Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman dies after collapse during match

Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman died on Thursday after collapsing during the 12th round of the National Chess Championship at the Bangladesh Chess Federation.

Rahman, 50, was playing against Grandmaster Enamul Hossain Rajib when he collapsed at 5:52 pm. The match had started at 3 pm.

He was soon rushed to Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital in Shahbagh, Dhaka, where on-duty doctors declared him dead at 7:20pm, said sources close to the Chess Federation.

They quoted on-duty doctors as saying that Grandmaster Rahman had likely died before arriving at the hospital.
