Japanese Ambassador Iwama Kiminori has stressed the need for improving Bangladesh's business environment in all aspects.
Such improvements are crucial for opening up new avenues for cooperation between Japan and Bangladesh to reap the benefits of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), he said.
Speaking at an event, Ambassador Iwama highlighted that the successful conclusion of the second round of EPA negotiations last week reflects Bangladesh's strong commitment to advancing its business climate.
The ambassador was addressing the 19th annual general meeting of Japan Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI) as the chief guest at a city hotel on Sunday.
He lauded the JBCCI for its role in strengthening trade ties between the two countries, noting that the increase in the chamber's membership reflects its success and the opportunities ahead.
He also commended JBCCI's contributions to the EPA negotiations.
The ambassador reflected on the respect and support he has received during his nearly two years of tenure and expressed hope for continued government assistance in improving the investment climate and business environment.
Anwar Shahid, Secretary General of JBCCI, said Bangladesh has immense opportunities for progress, drawing on the valuable experiences shared by Japan.
Abdul Haque of Haq's Bay Automobiles said Bangladesh is poised to attract more Japanese investment, particularly in manufacturing, technology, renewable energy, and major infrastructure sectors.
"Reformation is needed to ensure the right groups address the right agenda for improvement, which is not only crucial for business but also for the country's social environment," he added.
AKM Moazzem Hussain, the founder of JBCCI and honorary member, Sugawara Manabu, former president of JBCCI, and Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan, JBCCI's newly elected president, also spoke at the event.
