Prime Minister's private industry and investment affairs adviser Salman F Rahman at a global forum has focused on sharing technology to ensure that the entire world reap its benefits.

"AI (artificial intelligence) technology may pose a threat to development by exacerbating the gap between developed and underdeveloped nations," he said.

"Excessive use of technology [robots and AI in industries] can potentially threaten human beings and development in the future."

Mr Rahman said this while addressing a special meeting of the World Economic Forum in Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh on Tuesday, according to a statement.

"As unprecedented advancements in technology are exacerbating the gap between developed and underdeveloped nations, investors are also directing investment in high-profit potential sectors."

About Bangladesh, Mr Rahman said the country had turned around after overcoming an economic crisis.

Emphasising the country's achievements across diverse sectors, he said gross national development persisted even amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

"However, the economic repercussions of the Russia-Ukraine conflict have posed challenges to the country, including declining forex reserves and the appreciation of dollar against taka," he cited.

Despite Bangladesh's non-involvement in the overseas conflict, it bears the brunt of the consequences, he went on to say.

At the meeting, world leaders advocated for an equitable distribution of technology worldwide, extending beyond developed nations. They also discussed global cooperation, economic growth and energy policies.
