Stocks opened higher on Tuesday, as optimistic investors continued to bet on lucrative large-cap shares in anticipation of short-term gain, amid growing confidence.
Price hikes of selective stocks such as ICB, Walton, Robi, National Bank, and Kohinoor Chemicals mostly contributed to the market upturn at the opening
As a result, DSEX, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 36 points or 0.63 per cent to 5,763, after the first 30 minutes of trading at 10:30 am, when the report was filed.
The blue-chip index DS30, a group of 30 prominent companies, saw more than 12 points jump to 2059 while the DSES Index, which represents Shariah-based companies, gained more than 7 points to 1,268 till then.
Market operators said as buoyant investors kept their buying spree in lucrative shares, investor sentiment remained enthusiastic as institutional investors were putting fresh bets on stocks that posted higher quarterly earnings.
Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Tk 2.42 billion after the first 30 minutes of trading.
Of the issues traded, 247 advanced, 68 declined, and 37 remained unchanged till then.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also opened high with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI –gaining 26 points to 16,387, also at 10:30 pm.
