Stocks open higher amid optimism

Stocks opened higher on Wednesday, as optimistic investors are putting fresh funds on selective shares, in anticipation of short-term gain.

The prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) went up by 6.65 points or 0.12 per cent to 5,372.62 within the first hour of trading at 11:06 am.

The blue-chip DS30 index, a group of 30 prominent companies, also gained .14 points to 1963.87 and the DSES index, which represents Shariah-based companies, jumped .80 points to 1,196.

Turnover, another important market indicator, stood at Tk 79 billion till then.

Of the issues traded, 155 advanced, 119 declined, and 86 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor till then.

Taufika Foods and Lovello Ice-cream was the most traded stock with shares worth Tk 91.94 million changing hands when the report was filed.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) saw a negative trend till then with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)—losing 2 points to stand at 15045 while the Selective Categories Index – CSCX lost 4.34 points to reach 9,139.39.
