Stocks open higher, turnover remains low

Stocks opened higher on Tuesday, as optimistic investors putting fresh funds on lucrative shares in anticipation of short-term gain after a recent sharp correction.

The prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 72 points or 1.39 per cent to 5,245 within the first hour of trading at 11:00 am, when the report was filed.

The blue-chip DS30 index, a group of 30 prominent companies, also gained 26 points to 1,929 and the DSES index, which represents Shariah-based companies, rose 14 points to 1,171 till then.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market, remained low and stood at Tk 896 million till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 328 advanced, 16 declined, and 28 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor till then.

Lovello Ice-cream was the most traded stock till then with shares worth Tk 69 million changing hands.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange also saw a positive trend till then with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)—gaining 46 points to stand at 14,559 while the Selective Categories Index – CSCX gained 28 points to reach 8,860 till then.
