Stocks witness volatility in early trading

After a major setback in the previous day, stocks witnessed volatility in early trading on Tuesday as investors cautiously trading shares amid prevailing uncertainties.

The market opened sharply lower and the prime index of the DSE plummeted 27 points within the first 30 minutes of trading. However, the bargain hunters came forward and recovered the initial losses in the next 30 minutes.

After the first hour of trading, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange went up by 3 points to 5,781 at 11:00 am, when the report was filed.

The blue chip index DS30, a group of 30 prominent companies, also gained 2 points to 2,016. However, the DSES Index, which represents Shariah-based companies, saw a fractional loss of 0.56 point to 1,265 till then.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, remained low and amounted to Tk 1.50 billion at 11:00 am.

Of the issues traded, 179 advanced, 125 declined and 69 remained unchanged till then.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened lower with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI –losing 24 points to 16,519, also at 11:00 am.
