Tariquzzaman joins DSE as managing director

Dr ATM Tariquzzaman, who has over 25 years of capital market experience, joined the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) as managing director on Sunday for the next three years.

The securities regulator --- Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) approved his appointment on August 8 this year, according to a press release.

The top executive position at the prime bourse fell vacant in September last year following the resignation of the then Managing Director Tarique Amin Bhuiyan.

Tarique Amin Bhuiyan resigned his position, allegedly following a series of disagreements with the premier bourse’s board of directors two years before his tenure ended.

Before joining the DSE, ATM Tariquzzaman was the executive director at the BSEC.

Mr Tariquzzaman joined BSEC as deputy director in 1997 after completing M Com in Accounting from University Dhaka and MBA in Financial Management from the South Eastern University (UK Campus).

While working at BSEC, Dr Tariq got an AusAid scholarship to study Master of Financial Planning (MFP) and also Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) from Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia from 2007-2009.

Later he completed PhD in Accounting and Finance from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.

ATM Tariquzzaman has experience in teaching at the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.

He worked as an Adjunct Lecturer at Southeast University and Asia-Pacific University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He later worked as a Teaching Assistant at Monash Business School, Monash University & RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia and School of Accounting and Commercial Law Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.

He also achieved professional memberships from CPA (Australia), The Institute of Directors (IOD), New Zealand Incorporation and The Institute of Finance Professionals New Zealand Inc (INFINZ).
