The securities regulator has appointed ATM Tariquzzaman, an executive director of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, as the new managing director of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) for three years.

The BSEC on Tuesday approved his appointment, a day-after the prime bourse board had recommended three candidates, including Tariquzzaman, to appoint as managing director at the premier bourse.

Before joining the DSE, ATM Tariquzzaman has to resign from his existing position as executive director at the BSEC, according to BSEC.

The top executive position at the prime bourse fell vacant in September last year following the resignation of the then Managing Director Tarique Amin Bhuiyan.

Tarique Amin Bhuiyan resigned his position, allegedly following a series of disagreements with the premier bourse’s board of directors two years before his tenure ended.

ATM Tariquzzaman has experience in teaching at the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.

Dr Tariquzzaman earned his MCom (Accounting) from University of Dhaka and MBA in Financial Management from South Eastern University (London Campus, UK), MCom (Financial Planning), and MPA (Master of Professional Accounting) from Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia.

He completed his PhD in Accounting and Finance from the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.
