Central Shariah Board’s 42nd general meeting held

The 42nd general meeting of the Central Shariah Board for Islamic Banks of Bangladesh (CSBIB) was held at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 in the Jalsaghar Hallroom of Hotel Purbani International Limited at Dilkusha, Dhaka, according to a press release.

Prof Dr Mohammad Gias Uddin Talukder, Chairman of CSBIB presided over the meeting and Mr Md Abdullah Sharif, Secretary General of the same conducted it. Mawlana M Shamaun Ali, Vice-chairman of the Board, Principal Sayed Kamal Uddin Jafree, Chairman of the CSBIB Fiqh Committee, Mr Md Farid Uddin Ahmad, Chairman of the CSBIB Executive Committee, and other members of CSBIB attended the meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, CSBIB Board members were informed of the death of the Adviser of the Central Shariah Board Mr Shah Abdul Hannan and former Vice-chairman of the Board Prof Mawlana Muhammad Salahuddin.

The members of the Board recalled their outstanding contribution to implementing the Islamic economic system and prayed to Allah for their forgiveness and high status in paradise.

Importance was attached in the meeting to compliance of Shariah in all fields of banking operations properly. Besides, issues related to Central Shariah Board were discussed in the meeting.

The attending members expressed satisfaction about the programmes implemented by CSBIB and advised to increase such programmes.

The meeting finally approved the annual plan of actions, annual budget of Central Shariah Board for the year 2022 and the annual income and expenditure statement (balance sheet), and audit report.

The Board members also expressed satisfaction over the results of the internationally recognised and Bahrain-based Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) introduced Certified Islamic Professional Accountant (CIPA), Certified Shari'ah Advisor and Auditor (CSAA) and Central Shariah Board introduced Certificate Course on Islamic Banking and Finance (CIBF) courses.

The Chairmen of Boards of Directors, Managing Directors, Chairmen of Shariah Supervisory Committees/Councils and their Member Secretaries/Secretaries of 26 member institutions, namely Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited, Al-Arafah Islami Bank Limited, Social Islami Bank Limited, Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited, Export Import Bank of Bangladesh Limited, Union Bank Limited, ICB Islamic Bank Limited, First Security Islami Bank Limited, AB Bank Limited, Dhaka Bank Limited, Jamuna Bank Limited, Prime Bank Limited, The City Bank Limited, The Premier Bank Limited, Standard Chartered Bank, Southeast Bank Limited,  Agrani Bank Limited,  Bank Asia Limited,  Pubali Bank Limited,  Standard Bank Limited,  Trust Bank Limited, Bank AL-Falah Limited, Mutual Trust Bank Limited, Sonali Bank Limited, Global Islami Bank Limited and Islamic Finance and Investment Limited, a representative of the Islamic Banks Consultative Forum as an observer member and researchers and officers of CSBIB were present in the meeting.
