The stock market extended the winning streak to nine consecutive sessions on Thursday, with turnover crossing the Tk 18 billion mark as buoyant investors put fresh bets on lucrative stocks amid growing confidence.

Turnover on the Dhaka bourse stood at the Tk 18.58 billion mark for the first time after 17 months, the highest since September 20, 2022.

The market turnover has been staying above Tk 10 billion over the last six consecutive days as investors took fresh positions on large-cap stocks riding on high hopes.

Along with soaring turnover, the benchmark index of the Dhaka bourse went up by 20.9 points to settle at 6,373. The DSEX has added 293 points over the past nine days.

The recent growth in turnover and index—the two most important indicators of the market—in general suggests investors’ confidence in the market is getting back, market operators said.

The majority of the stocks saw a price surge, as out of the 394 issues traded, 210 closed higher, 140 ended lower, and 44 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended higher, with its All Share Price Index (CASPI) rising 121 points to settle at 18,296 and the Selective Categories Index (CSCX) gaining 73 points to close at 10,951.

The port city bourse traded 18.43 million shares and mutual fund units with a turnover volume of Tk 363 million.
