12 organisations get national productivity award

Twelve organisations, covering all the major categories of industrial unites, on Wednesday received the National Productivity and Quality Excellence Award-2016' for their significant contributions to the industrial sector by maintaining higher productivity and quality of products.

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu handed over the awards to the representatives of the recipient organisations at a function at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka.

President of Bangladesh Employers' Federation Kamran T Rahman attended the function as the special guest.

National Productivity Organisation (NPO) organised the function with Industries Secretary Muhammad Abdullah in the chair.

The award was given for the third time in five categories for increasing productivity and excellence of produced goods.

The five categories are large industry, medium industry, small industry, micro industry and state-owned enterprises.

Premier Cement Mills Limited, Mercantile Bank Limited and RFL Plastics Limited won the award in large category while Bongo Plastic International Limited, PRAN Foods Limited and GraphicPeople in medium industry category and Rangpur Foundry Limited and Synthetic Adhesive Co Limited in small industry category.

Besides, Academic Book House in micro industry category while Carew and Co (Bangladesh) Limited, Eastern Cables Limited and Gazi Wares Limited won the award in state-owned enterprises category.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Amir Hossain Amu urged the entrepreneurs to ensure the highest productivity in the industries by using environment friendly technology and renewable energy.

"The government is working relentlessly to turn the country into an industrialised middle-income nation by 2021 and a developed one by 2041," he added.

The industries minister said the government has taken environment friendly policies and initiatives, which are expediting the flow of industrialisation across the country, reports BSS.

"The contribution of the industrial sector to our national income is 33 per cent. We will have to take the contribution to 40 per cent for making the country a middle income one by 2021," he added.
