30 entities honoured with ICAB Award

A total of 30 organisations have received the 23rd ICAB National Award for their best presented Annual Reports, Integrated Reporting, and Corporate Governance Disclosures for 2022.

Listed and non-listed entities in 15 different sectors, including banks, non-bank financial institutions, insurance, energy, construction, and ICT, received the award at a ceremony organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) at a city hotel on Monday evening.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, who was present as the chief guest, gave away the awards to the representatives of the winning organisations while State Minister for Planning Dr Shamsul Alam was present as a special guest.

Senior Secretary to the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Executive Vice-Chairman of the Microcredit Regulatory Authority Md. Fashiullah, Director General of NGO Affairs Bureau SK Md Moniruzzaman, Chairman of the Financial Reporting Council Dr. Md. Hamid Ullah Bhuiyan, and Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Commissioner Dr. Mizanur Rahman attended the event as guests of honour.

Jury board members, including The Financial Express Editor Shamsul Huq Zahid, former NBR chairman Dr. Muhammad Abdul Mazid, former comptroller and auditor general Ahmed Ataul Hakeem, and Managing Editor of the Daily Sangbad Kashem Humayun, along with ICAB President Md. Moniruzzaman, Chairman of the Review Committee for Published Accounts & Reports (RCPAR) Mohammed Humayun Kabir, and Vice-President MBM Luthful Hadee also attended the award ceremony.

A 13-member Jury Board, chaired by Dr. Atiur Rahman, former governor of Bangladesh Bank, reviewed the recommended list of the winners.

From the winning companies, three best annual reports under each award category will be nominated by the ICAB to the SAFA BPA competition in December 2023.

The winners of ICAB awards

Among all the winners, Shahjalal Islami Bank emerged as the overall winner. Apart from recognising the first, second and third place winners in each sector, the ICAB conferred "Certificate of Merit" on the entities for achieving the minimum threshold scores.

In the public-sector bank category, Agrani Bank PLC became the gold award winner, Janata Bank PLC and Sonali Bank PLC became joint silver award winners and Rupali Bank Limited bagged the bronze award.

In the private sector bank category, Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited and Bank Asia Limited became joint gold award winners while United Commercial Bank PLC and BRAC Bank PLC shared the silver award and Mutual Trust Bank Limited and Mercantile Bank PLC became joint bronze award winners.

In the financial services sector, LankaBangla Finance emerged as the gold award winner, IPDC Finance Limited became the silver award winner and Bangladesh Finance Limited got the bronze award.

In the manufacturing sector, British American Tobacco Bangladesh won the gold award, RAK Ceramics (Bangladesh) Limited bagged Silver award and Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC became the bronze award winner.

In the insurance (general) sector, the City General Insurance Company Ltd won the gold award while Reliance Insurance Limited and Green Delta Insurance Company Limited became joint silver award winners.

In NGOs/NPOs sectors, SAJIDA Foundation secured the gold award, BRAC won silver award and Shakti Foundation for Disadvantaged Women and Ghashful became joint bronze award winners.

In communication & IT sector, Robi Axiata Limited won the gold award winner and Grameenphone Limited became the silver award winner.

In the public sector, Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) became the gold award winner, Investment Corporation of Bangladesh Limited became the silver award winner and Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund Ltd won the bronze award.

In service sector, Unique Hotel & Resorts Limited and Bank Asia Limited became joint gold award winners, Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited silver award and British American Tobacco Bangladesh won the bronze award.

In Integrated Reporting, BRAC Bank PLC won the gold award, IDLC Finance Limited bagged the silver award and Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited got the silver award.
