Anonymous brands hold 47pc of electrical accessories and lighting market: Study

Nearly half, or 47 per cent, of the Bangladesh market for electrical accessories and lighting products is occupied by anonymous brands, which are either locally manufactured, substandard counterfeits, or illegally imported to evade taxes, a study reveals.

The remaining 53 per cent of the market is occupied by products from various affiliated brands or companies, according to the study conducted by Marketing Watch Bangladesh (MWB).

Domestic companies account for about 94 per cent of the branded electrical accessories and 89.01 per cent of the branded lighting products, with their market share continuing to grow, the study added.

The study findings were revealed at a press conference organised by the Department of Marketing at Dhaka University on Saturday. Former Chairman of the Department of Marketing and Co-Founder of MWB Md Mizanur Rahman revealed the results.

According to the MWB report, the study covered products including switches, sockets, holders, multi-plugs, circuit breakers, meters, and various lighting products such as LED Lux, LED Tubes, LED Panels, Bracket LEDs, energy-efficient bulbs, and emergency lighting options.
