Bangladesh to host FAO's APRC in March

Bangladesh will host the FAO's Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific in March this year.

The four-day conference, known as APRC 36, will be inaugurated in Dhaka on March 8, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) announced the event schedule at an online press conference on Monday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to address the conference.

The event is expected to focus on the impact of COVID-19, the state of agriculture, natural resources management, food security and nutrition.

Bangladesh gets the opportunity to hold the conference for the first time since establishment of its relationship with the FAO in 1973.

FAO regional communication officer Allan Dow said 46 countries from across the region will participate in this major event to highlight examples of partnerships, innovation and digital technologies that are helping to improve food security and nutrition across the region as well as regional and global policy and regulatory matters.

Given the COVID-19 situation, the conference is expected to be held on a hybrid basis, with some participants joining via a videoconferencing platform.

Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque is expected to chair the ministerial sessions of the APRC.
