Bank Asia MD Adil Chy resigns

'Its board approves his leave until Oct 21'

President and Managing Director (MD) of Bank Asia Areef Billah Adil Chowdhury submitted his resignation letter, the bank's informed sources said.

He was appointed the Bank Asia MD in November 2022.

Mr Adil Chowdhury sent his resignation letter to the bank authority on Wednesday, the sources said, adding that the resignation letter was not approved until Monday.

However, the Bank Asia authority in a notice stated that its board of directors approved leave for Mr Adil Chowdhury from July 30 to October 21, 2023, it was learnt.

Mr Shafiuzzaman, the Bank's Additional Managing Director and Chief Credit Officer (CCO), has been given the current charge of its President and MD during the absence of Mr. Chowdhury, an official of the bank confirmed.

Mr Chowdhury could not be reached over cellphone for his comment in this regard at around 9:30 pm on Monday.

Prior to his position of President and MD, Mr Chowdhury held the position of Additional Managing Director, supervising global banking (ID, OBU, FRD, CTSU, and CPTC), global subsidiary operations, and special asset management division of the bank.
