The reconditioned vehicle importers on Monday urged the Mongla Port Authority (MPA) not to increase the wharf rent considering the current economic situation in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers Association or BARVIDA leaders also requested the MPA chairman for issuing 'Port Pass' for the trade body members to facilitate their visit there.
They came up with the pleas at a view-exchange meeting with the MPA Chairman Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa, held at the port's conference centre in Mongla in Bagerhat, said a statement.
BARVIDA President Md. Habib Ullah Dawn led the delegates.
The trade body also highlighted the need for faster dredging of the Poshur river so that to facilitate access of larger ships to the port, as vehicle import using the port is on the rise after the opening of Padma bridge.
