Senior officials of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) and the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) have expressed interest in resuming direct flights between the two countries to boost trade, tourism, and people-to-people contacts.

A discussion was held on Wednesday when PCAA Director General Nadir Shafi Dar met CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md Mostafa Mahmood Siddiq at the latter's office in Dhaka, according to a CAAB press release issued by Muhammad Kawsar Mahmud, assistant director (Public Relations).

The meeting highlighted the importance of strengthening technology and experience exchange, capacity building, and mutual cooperation in the aviation sector.

Both sides said resuming air connectivity could enhance trade, tourism, and interpersonal links between the countries. Other senior officials from CAAB and the CEO of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) also attended the meeting.

The CAAB has already approved two Pakistani airlines to operate in Bangladesh following the regime change on August 5 last year.

In February, Pakistan's private airline Fly Jinnah received approval to operate direct flights on the Karachi-Dhaka route, followed by Air Sial in May for the same route.
