Speakers at a budget discussion on Monday expressed concern that the proposed budget’s provision allowing the conversion of black money into white with a 15 percent tax will encourage corruption.

They emphasised that such a provision is not compatible with a just society.

The discussion, organised by the Economics Department of Dhaka University (DU), was held at the Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium of the Social Science Faculty.

DU Vice-Chancellor A S M Maksud Kamal, economics professors Selim Raihan, Ferdousi Nahar, Rumana Huque, Dr Sayema Haque Bidisha, and Syed Naimul Wadood, spoke at the event.

Prof Masuda Yasmeen, chairperson of the economics department, presided over the discussion.
