CCH calls auction for 475 containers of goods

The Chittagong Customs House (CCH) on Tuesday called auction for 475 containers of goods kept in the port jetties for a long time.

The auction will be held in two phases. The process of E Tender for auction has already started.

Although the notice of the first phase auction, set to be held in the current month, has been published on the CCH website, the second phase auction notice will be published soon, said CCH officials.

Sources said, the containers, which are set to be auctioned in the first phase, are loaded with 24 concrete mixer machines, vehicles, tiles, chemicals, gypsum boards, ceramic products, garment accessories, engine oil, hydraulic oil, etc.

It include 24 concrete mixer trucks and about 125 containers of goods. The remaining 350 containers will contain non-perishable goods.

Custom House Assistant Commissioner Md Shakib Hossain said, "Tenders have been invited for the auction of various types of goods that have been unloaded, detained and confiscated inside the Chittagong Port."

"Interested auction buyers can participate in the auction by registering in the e-auction module on the website of Bangladesh Customs, Chittagong Custom House, and National Board of Revenue from 9:00 am on July 15 to 2:00 pm on July 30," he added.

He said, "When someone bidding in the online auction, a scanned copy of a pay order or bank draft or DD (demand draft) issued in favor of 'Commissioner, Custom House, Chittagong' from any scheduled bank must be submitted as a security of 10 percent of the quotation price. Original copies and documents should be submitted in a sealed envelope to the box at the auction branch of the Custom House by 2:00 pm on July 30 next." According to the CCH, goods can be inspected from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm on July 16-22.

Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Secretary Omar Faruk said, "Every month, the Chittagong Port Authority has been providing the Custom House with a list of auction-able goods. If the auction is held quickly, important spaces within the port will be freed up. Containers of new imported goods can be stored there and the efficiency of the port will increase significantly."
