The government has appointed Dr Habibur Rahman and Mr Khurshid Alam as deputy governors of the central bank.

The Financial Institution Division of the Ministry of Finance has issued a notification confirming their appointment on Wednesday.

Dr Rahman is currently serving the Bangladesh Bank (BB) as the chief economist, while Mr Alam is an executive director (grade-1) of the banking regulator.

With the latest recruitments, there are now four deputy governors at the Bangladesh Bank (BB) as the contract appointment for deputy governor AKM Sajedur Rahman Khan ended on February 2 last, while deputy governor Abu Farah Md Nasser’s contract expired on February 23, 2024.

Abu Farah Md Nasser, however, will discharge the responsibility of the recently introduced post of BB’s policy advisor for the upcoming year.

The new deputy governors have been hired on a contract basis on the condition of cancellation of their voluntary retirement from their current posts.
