The Central Shariah Board for Islamic Banks of Bangladesh (CSBIB) recently arranged a seminar in Dhaka on the role of Shariah-based banking in socio-economic development of Bangladesh.
Mr Md Rias Sarower, director general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended the seminar as the chief guest. The keynote was presented by Dr Mohammad Omar Farooq, professor at United International University (UIU), and the seminar was presided by the Vice Chairman of the Central Shariah Board, Dr Md Anwar Hosain Molla, according to a press release.
Secretary General of Central Shariah Board Mr Md Abdullah Sharif, CIPA, CSAA, gave a welcome speech. In the seminar, a 16-point proposal and recommendations were adopted.
The seminar was attended by chairmen, member secretaries, senior muraqibs of Shariah supervisory committees, councils and Islamic banking division heads of 40 banks and financial institutions, university teachers, principals of Qawmi and Alia Madrasahs, journalists, lawyers and electronic media persons, and over 200 personnel from various professions. Gifts were distributed among all by the Central Shariah Board. The seminar concluded with prayer, iftar and dinner.
