Almost all shopping malls of Chattogram have been illuminated for beautification to attract customers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
As a result, the view of shopping malls as well as the port city becomes stunning with the colourful lights in the nighttimes.
The city dwellers were seen visiting Sanmar Ocean City Market, VIP Tower Shopping centre, Ameen Centre, Akhtaruzzaman Centre, Singapore-Bangkok market, Lucky Plaza, Biponi Bitan, Afmi Plaza, Mimi Super Market and Yunusco City Centre as the illumination and decoration of the markets were attracting them.
Chief Engineer of Power Development Board (PDB) Chattogram, Engineer Md Rezaul Karim, said, "There is no crisis of power during the holy month of Ramadan now. Our total power generation capacity is 22000 MW. We are generating more than 12000 MW now. We are meeting electricity demands without any hassle."
"As the Eid is nearing, the markets are being illuminated to attract the buyers. The shop owners and trade bodies of markets are using the power by their own meters," he added.
Md Sajjaduddin, owner of Ophelia fashion house at Afmi Plaza in Chattogram said the lighting in the market is boosting the sales ahead of Eid.
He said, "As there is no crisis of power now, we are illuminating the shops and establishments to attract the Eid shoppers."
"The businessmen could not do business due to Coronavirus outbreak during the Eid and Ramadan for last several years. Hopefully, the business will be better this year than the previous years," he added.
Eid shoppers expressed their happiness and said the festive mood has returned after the pandemic.
"The businessmen and customers are satisfied with the uninterrupted power supply in the markets," Saifuddin Khaled a shopper at city's Biponi Bitan said.
