COAST Foundation provides relief assistance to 4,875 flood-affected families

COAST Foundation, in partnership with Shapla Neer, has provided essential relief assistance to 4,875 families in Feni, one of the districts severely impacted by the August 2024 floods in eastern Bangladesh.
COAST Foundation began delivering cooked food and immediate aid shortly after the floods struck, while Shapla Neer, a Japanese INGO, joined efforts to support the flood-affected communities, said a press release.
The Japan Platform, a Japanese donor organisation, contributed to the initiative, which amounted to Tk 35.8 million.
Relief was delivered in two packages of food and non-food items to 3,749 families in Mirzanagar and Chitlia unions of Parshuram Upazila, and 1,126 families in Darbarpur Union of Fulgazi Upazila, following assessments to identify the most vulnerable households. The food package included 25 kg of rice, 4 kg of pulses, 4 kg of oil, and other essentials, while the non-food package provided sanitation items, including mosquito nets, hand wash, and sanitary pads for 4,875 female students.
The distribution programme begins at Mirzanagar Touhid Academy, attended by COAST Foundation’s Deputy Executive Director Sanat Kumar Bhowmik, Shapla Neer Bangladesh’s Country Director, Tomoko Uchiyama its Tokyo representative Hiromi Katsui, and local dignitaries.
