Mobile courts of the Department of Fisheries (DOF) fined Tk 6.46 million and jailed 983 persons in the fiscal year 2016-17(FY17) to protect the breeding and growth of important fishes.
The courts also seized a total of 542,276current nets, the data showed.
The DOF also lodged 414 cases in FY17 against the perpetrators, the data added.
Appropriate measures were also taken to implement the Fish Act-1950 with assistance from local administration and law and enforcement agencies like police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Bangladesh Navy so on.
