Open markets in Dhaka city witnessed a significant rise in the US dollar rate on Thursday.
The American greenback traded between Tk 122 and Tk 123 on the day as against Tk 118.5 two days ago, traders said.
Some dollar purchasers said that they had bought the dollar for as much as Tk 125.
However, traders noted that no one was now buying the dollar unless it was absolutely necessary.
It cannot be said just now at what price the dollar rate may stabilise, they added.
Earlier on Wednesday, Bangladesh Bank set the Crawling Peg Mid Rate at Tk 117 per US dollar, a move that lifted the rate by Tk 7 from its prior official level.
