The European Union (EU) has suspended its discussions with Bangladesh regarding a partnership and cooperation agreement in light of the current situation, an EU spokesperson has said.
The discussion was to start in September, Prothom Alo reports, quoting the EU spokesperson as confirming it in an email, adding that no new date has been set for the discussions.
Under the partnership and cooperation agreement, the EU provides financial and other support to a partner country.
In October last year, during a ceremony, the EU and Bangladesh had decided to start the discussion on the partnership.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen were present at the ceremony.
