Foreign, JV investment proposals up 126pc

The volume of foreign and joint-venture (JV) investment proposals, registered with the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) during the January-March period of fiscal 2022-23, rose by more than 126 per cent compared to the corresponding period of the last fiscal.

Investment proposals amounting to Tk 50 billion were registered with the BIDA against 11 wholly foreign-owned and 14 joint-venture (JV) companies during the last January-March period, according to the BIDA quarterly data.

On the other hand, the amount of foreign and JV investment proposals was nearly Tk 22.28 billion during the January-March period of 2021-22 fiscal, it revealed.

The total investment proposals registered with the BIDA for local, foreign and JV industries totalled Tk 167.86 billion during the last January-March period, according to the official figures.

Of which, some 206 local companies had got registered with investment proposals of Tk 117.49 billion during the mentioned period.

Major investment proposals were made for setting up textile mills, chemical units, farming and miscellaneous industries in the country, according to the BIDA.

If implemented, the proposed investments would create some 39,900 jobs in the country, it mentioned.
