The government has increased the prices of fuel oil by Tk 0.75 to Tk 2.5 per litre for June at the consumer level “to adjust them with the rate fluctuations in the global market”.

According to a statement of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources issued on Thursday, the prices of diesel and kerosene have gone up by Tk 0.75 to Tk 107.75 from Tk 107 with effect from June 1.

Petrol price has been increased by Tk 2.5 to Tk 127 from Tk 124.5 and octane by Tk 2.5 to Tk 131 from Tk 128.5.

According to the statement, the hikes are part of the government’s monthly adjustment of oil prices with the rate fluctuations in the global market. The government introduced the monthly adjustment in March this year.

The statement says though the prices of fuel oil decreased slightly in the world market, prices in the domestic market needed adjustment due to the devaluation of Bangladeshi taka against the US dollar.

Earlier, the government raised fuel oil prices by up to Tk 2.5 a litre for May after decreasing them in the first two months of the introduction of the monthly adjustment system.
