Govt to reopen all closed sugar mills, says industries adviser

Adviser of Ministry of Industries Adilur Rahman Khan has said that all closed sugar mills in the country will be reopened.

“The government has taken initiative to reopen all closed sugar mills in the country,” he said.

The adviser said this while inaugurating the sugar crushing programme of North Bengal Sugar Mills in Natore district on Friday, reports BSS.

The government has also formed a task force committee to address the reopening of the sugar mills that remained shut for a long time, he said, adding, “This committee has been assessing the constraints on re-operation of those sugar mills.”

“With coordinated efforts of all concerned and support of the common people, we want to become successful. We are working for that. We want to improve the livelihood of people living in backward areas,” he added.

Senior secretary of Industries Ministry Zakia Sultana was present as the special guest, while Bangladesh Sugar and Foods Industries Corporation Chairman Dr Lipika Bhadra presided over the function.

Among others, Bangladesh Sugar and Foods Industries Corporation director ATM Kamrul Islam, deputy commissioner Asma Shaheen, Police Super Md Marufat Hussain and Sugar Cane Farmer Hasan Raja also spoke at the programme.
