Total food grain (rice and wheat) import in the country was over 4.31 million tonnes as of March 13 this year.
The Ministry of Food revealed the data recently.
Of the total food grains, rice import registered more than 0.14 million tonnes. Of these, the government imported a little over 0.05 million tonnes while the private traders imported over 0.08 million tonnes.
The wheat import was over 4.16 million tonnes. Of them, the government imported over 0.235 million while the rest of the amount by the private traders.
Bangladesh set a record of rice import in 2018 which stood slightly over 3.5 million tonnes.
