Finance Minister AH Mahmood Ali on Thursday proposed to reduce total tax incidence from 31 per cent to 20.50 per cent for laptop import to make laptop computers and similar products available to the tech-savvy workforces.
“I propose to increase the CD from 5 per cent to 10 per cent and recommend waiving the 15 per cent VAT applicable at import stage. This will reduce the total tax incidence from 31 per cent to 20.50 per cent,” said Ali in his budget speech in the Jatiya Sangsad.
These measures will also help curb the fake/refurbished laptops mushrooming in the market, he added.
