Md Alamgir Kabir, vice-chairman of Crown Cement PLC, has been re-elected as President of Bangladesh Cement Manufacturers Association (BCMA) for the period covering 2023-2024 and 2024-2025.
Mr Imran Karim, vice chairman of Confidence Cement Ltd and Mr Abdul Khaleque Pervez, managing director of Diamond Cement Ltd have also been re-elected as the first and second vice-president of the BCMA respectively, says a press release Tuesday.
They were re-elected at the 24th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the BCMA held in the association’s premises in Dhaka today (Tuesday).
The re-elected President of BCMA Md Alamgir Kabir is a leading entrepreneur in Bangladesh. Apart from serving as vice-chairman of Crown Cement PLC, he is also serving as chairman of GPH Ispat Ltd and director of Premier Cement Mills Ltd.
The other members of the newly elected executive committee of the BCMA are: as Treasurer Mr Faizur Rahman Bakul (Noapara Cement) and as Executive Members Mr Sk Jashim Uddin (Akij Cement), Mrs Tahmina Ahmed (Seven Ring Cement), Md Shahidullah (Metrocem Cement), Mr Ashraful Amin Badal (Heidelberg Cement), Mr Nab-E-Zahir (Mir Cement).
In an immediate reaction, Md Alamgir Kabir said that the Cement Industry of Bangladesh is now in deep crisis. “So, working with the policy makers to flourish the cement sector as well as to keep the consumers’ interest up will be our main task,” he said.
Mr Kabir also expressed his heartfelt thanks to all members of Cement Industry for reelecting him as the President of BCMA.
Prior to Md Alamgir Kabir, Bshundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and Meghna Group of Industries Chairman Mostafa Kamal also served as the president of the BCMA.
